Phase I Lesson Sample: ‘Creating Basic phrases with Arpeggios & Blues scale’
Example 1
Here in example 1 a one-octave arpeggio (notes of the chord of A Major) are played and then the Blues Scale in ‘A’ is descended (from the note ‘C’ Natural) to create a completion of this phrase.
*Note: quavers played dotted for jazz feel
Example 2
Here in example 2 the arpeggio notes are combined with two passing notes (to jazz things up a little…the notes are taken from the minor 3rd note of the Blues scale and the Major 6th note of the ‘A’ Mixolydian Mode for more advanced students’ interest) and then the Scale is descended once again to complete the phrase.
Example 3
Here in example 3, again the arpeggio is combined with the same two passing notes but the Blues Scale is descended with some extra passing tones (again to jazz things up). The incorporation of passing tones is something covered in lessons further ahead, but whether or not one understands why they can be used does not stop them being used, so in the mean-time feel confident in using them…they do work!
