Welcome and thanks for visiting Bristol Guitar Tuition. Approaches to learning the guitar There seem to be a number of common approaches when learning modern guitar styles: a) the ‘reinvention of the wheel’ approach b) the ‘I’m going to do this alone’ approach c) the ‘life is too short, I’m going to get some tuition’ approach. Experience shows that ultimately approach c) works best: we all want to express ourselves through our music in a unique way, but learning an instrument with little or no formal tuition is often a long-winded and unnecessarily frustrating experience. Because rock, jazz and blues styles etc. are essentially music forms that rely on a tradition of being passed-down from player to player (or learnt by ear), it is often (unrealistically) believed that it is just as easy to sit and become a wonderful musician in one’s own living room with no interaction with other musicians. Of course there are some who have achieved this, but ultimately (like learning to express oneself through use of language) one has to work alongside and communicate with others in order to form a character/style through regular engagement with the real world. In the same way, it is also less frustrating to get some basic music frameworks (like grammar and vocabulary in languages) when seeking to start on that journey of musical expression and engagement. Equipping you to succeed
Here at Bristol Guitar Tuition, we primarily want to equip you with that framework which will get you firmly on the right road to success and (for frustrated players everywhere) bring some order and understanding to your hard earned but (perhaps) chaotic view of the guitar and musical universe. Our aim is less to do with teaching of song after song (and there is nothing wrong with this), but more to do with the imparting of skills and knowledge necessary for you to become an empowered musician who can apply yourself to a range of real-life musical scenarios…less of a juke-box approach, more of a creative, thinking guitarist approach. The net result of this being that not only will you become a confident, thinking guitarist but possess the ability to see how the songs in your juke-box repertoire were constructed and why they work. Courses to match your skill level
Tuition is offered quite simply in 3 Phases, which take guitar students from a basic level to advanced. Lessons are given by staff experienced in Live, Theatre, Session & Recording Work ect. and who possess post graduate teaching qualifications (PGCE) as well as years of guitar teaching experience. We use our own course material and schemes of work, which are designed with a range of students in mind, our aim is to encourage guitarists of various standards and equip them to be more confident, informed and practically better players. It is an amazing phenomena to consider, that so many guitarists are willing to spend great amounts of money on wonderful equipment and yet neglect the one thing that they really desire… mastering the guitar itself. If you get nothing more from visiting our website, do one thing…don’t spend the rest of your guitar playing years wishing you got some direction. We are centrally based in Bristol and particularly suited to folk busy working or living around the city who can fit a regular lesson into their week whilst in town. Have a look at some of the sample material included and if you want to invest in your future as a guitarist and get some tuition with us here in Bristol we’d like to hear from you…our contact details are included below. Once again, thanks for visiting Bristol Guitar Tuition. |
